A huge upset indeed, probably shouldnt not have happened.
I think it's kinda like with Basketball, the influx of players from around the world have made it less of an "American game" and more of a Worldwide game.
Now in a big league game you can have a Japanese pitcher throwing to a Canadian catcher trying to put it past a Dominican batter who hits it to a Venezuelan shortstop who throws it to a Mexican second baseman who tosses it on to an American first baseman to complete a double play. It's still an Aerican Sport because of it's origans, but it much more of a global game now.

Dont know a lot about this strange game, but do know that you (USA) are pretty darn good at it.
Why then did I see that Canada beat you at your own game?????

Well, Sean Pa, it was one of those unintended consequences of NAFTA. I warned people this sort of thing would happen, and they scoffed at me...

Oh yeah? Well, we just let them win so they'd feel good about themselves....
OK it is an embarrassment, what can I say? But hello, did anyone really think the U.S. was going to win? The players on the teams from Japan, Cuba, the Dominican, etc. are all good players AND it had meaning to them. They wanted to win. Just like our Olympic basketball team from Athens, our baseball players are spoiled millionaires, and this thing did not have any meaning to them and it showed. You tell them they're playing for "USA" on their jersey, they don't give a damn. You take the world series champion this October, and you put them up against these teams and they're playing for $1M per man, I guarantee you the result is different.
War Reds finishing at least 3rd in the division this year.
